摘要
隐喻一直被语言研究者看成是一种高雅的修辞手段。然而,20世纪70年代末以来,认知语言学的介入拓宽隐喻研究的范围,使隐喻研究不仅仅局限在修辞、词汇、句法层面上,其在语篇层面上的功能也逐渐得到语言学家的关注。从认知语言学的角度看,隐喻在语篇中通过源点域与目标域之间的相互作用进行延伸,从而形成一定的语篇衔接模式。隐喻以其独特的方式实现语篇的衔接与连贯,实施建构语篇的功能。
Metaphor has traditionally been considered merely an elegant rhetorical device. Ever since the end of 1970s, however, cognitive linguistics has broadened the scope of metaphor study. So far, the study of metaphor has not been merely confined to its rhetorical, lexical and syntactical levels. Its discourse functions have also gained increasing academic attention. From the per- spective of cognitive linguistics, metaphor can realize its extension in discourse via the interplay between two conceptual domains, that is, the source domain and the target domain, thus forming certain cohesive patterns in discourse. Metaphor contributes to the cohesion and coherence of a discourse with its unique style and thus performs its function in discourse construction.
