摘要
中国新诗在英语世界的翻译活动,至今已经有80余年的历史。在此期间,中国新诗英译活动在不同历史时期具有怎样的特点?其总体又具有怎样的特点?译本的接受情况如何?在以上三个方面,英语世界"引进"与中国官方"外推"活动之间分别有何异同?为解答以上问题,本文以美国俄亥俄州立大学中国现代文学与文化资源中心和英语国家亚马逊网站为主要译本信息来源,将中国新诗的英译历程划分为四个时期并分别加以梳理,总结出各个时期的特点与整体特点。同时利用从多种学术数据库和英语国家亚马逊网站、美国好读网等平台中获取的译评,对英译中国新诗的接受情况进行初步考察。希望借此研究,可以为中国文学外译及其研究提供一点启示。
More than 80 years have passed since newChinese poetry(NCP)was first translated into English.During these decades,what characteristics are there in different periods of translating NCP into English(TNCPiE)?What characteristics are there in TNCPiE as a whole?Howhave the translations been received?And in the three aspects mentioned above,what similarities and differences are there between the English-speaking world’s'importing'and the Chinese government’s'exporting'activities?To answer these questions,this article takes as major bibliographic sources the Modern Chinese Literature and Culture Resource Center of the Ohio State University and amazon.com/co.uk/ca/com.au,dividing the history of TNCPiE into four periods for detailed descriptions.Based on these descriptions,characteristics are summarized of each period as well as of the eight decades as a whole.And using translation reviews collected from academic data bases as well as on amazon.com/co.uk/ca/com.au and www.goodreads.com/,this article also examines the reception of newChinese poetry in English translation.It is hoped that this research will shed light on translating Chinese literature into foreign languages and research thereon.
