Diabetes mellitus is a group of disease syndromes characterized by chronic hyperglycemia, which can lead to a series of microvascular and macrovascular complications, easily involving cardiovascular system, nerve, retina, kidney and so on.Long term high glucose environment often leads to oxidative stress and reactive oxygen species(ROS)production, leading to nuclear DNA damage. After ROS inducing DNA strand breaks,DNA repair enzymes are over activated, which further leads to chronic inflammation and insulin resistance, aggravates the metabolic disorder of cells, and leads to diabetic complications. Therefore, understanding the relationship between DNA damage repair process and diabetes and its complications is of great significance to find effective targets for the early prevention of diabetes.
