摘要
选取5个具有代表意义的《论语》译本--里雅各,辜鸿铭,刘殿爵,威利及潘富恩、温少霞译本--作为蓝本,回顾这5个译本对"士"的不同诠释。运用义素分析法,对"士"及其对译词scholar、officer、gentleman、knight、superior man及virtuous man的义素进行了对比分析。通过对比发现,以上几个对译词的义素与"士"的义素均不相符,"士"的对译词需弃之另图,而音译加注释法不失为"士"之英译良策。
Selecting five representative translations of The Analects of Confucius as the original, James Legge, Gu Hongming, D.C.Lau, Arthur Wayley & Pan Fuen and Wen Shaoxia, it reviews their different interpretations of "Shi".The sesemes contained in "Shi" and its equaivalent words in five versions:scholar, officer, gentleman, knight, superior man and virtuous man are analyzed from the perspective of seseme analysis.It finds that all the sesemes in the equaivalent words are not really equaivalent to that of "Shi", so "Shi" needs to be translated in another way, and transliteration with explanation is no doubt the best.
