摘要
科技英语是一种专门用途英语,有别于通用英语。科技英语用途十分广泛。目前,在我国的翻译队伍中,人数最多的是科技翻译工作者。化工英语是科技英语的一种,做好化工领域的英汉互译工作十分重要,因为化工关系到国计民生,将直接影响我国的科技、经济发展。本文分析了科技英语的文体特征,并结合自己数年来在石油化工、煤化工方面的翻译实践,对化工领域英汉互译的常用技巧与注意事项提出了自己的观点。
English for science and technology is a kind of English for special purpose,different from general purpose English in many ways.English for science and technology use in a wide range.For the time being,most translators in China are working with this special purpose of English.Chemical English is a subsidiary of English for science and technology.It is important to do both English-Chinese translation and Chinese-English translation well in the chemical field,since chemical industry has a direct bearing on the national economy and people＇s livelihood,which will finally dictate the scientific and technological as well as economic development in China.In this paper,the characteristics of English for chemical industry are explored and proposals on the translation techniques are made with many examples cited from the auther′s translation work in the petrochemical and coal chemical field.
