摘要
本文对翻译学论争的根源作了深入探讨,指出早期倡导建立翻译学的学者将翻译学视为"揭示翻译活动客观规律的科学"是引起这场论争的直接原因,而我国译界对奈达"翻译科学"的译介失误是这场论争的深层原因.文章指出了奈达"翻译科学"的实质是"对翻译过程进行科学描述",而非"翻译即科学".
This paper explores the cause of the debate about translatology in China, pointing out the definition of translatology made by the proponents in the past as 'a science which reveals the objective law of translating' is the direct reason for this controversy.The deep reason is mistranslation of Nida's 'science of translation', which has been upheld by some Chinese scholars as 'translation being a science'.This paper clarifies the real nature of Nida's 'science of translation', which is 'the scientific description of the processes involved in translating'.
