Edward Morgan Foster completed six novels in his lifetime, the most famous of which is A Passage to India.Using this work as a study text,we analyze the author’s conscious deconstruction and unconscious construction of Orientalism,as well as his ambivalent attitude toward India and its people.Despite the“evasiveness”and some“elusiveness”of his writing, his unique cross-cultural experience had broadened his horizon, allowing him to break free from the limits of Western centrism and challenge the traditional narrative pattern of Orientalism.
