福斯特以其敏锐独特的目光,洞察了殖民统治下的印度现实,批判了英统治者的傲慢与偏见,揭示了印度社会的种种矛盾及隔阂,同时作品也流露出福斯特和谐完美的“天下一家”的联结梦幻的破灭,使读者体会到了作者对现实的失望及内心的悲凉,了解了他的困惑及迷惘。他的《印度之行》留下的是人与人之间的分离,文化的冲突、种族的矛盾及混乱不堪的宇宙。证明了福斯特通过“善意、教养和智慧”来实现人与人之间的沟通及联结的失败,也让人们意识到通过建立友谊来实现民族大融合、实现文化融合的艰难。
With his sharp and peculiar insight into the reality in India under the colonial rule, Forster exposed and reproached the British ruler＇s pride and prejudice, revealed various conflicts and estrangements in Indian society, which shatters the illusion of his perfect harmony of ＂all under heaven are of one family＂, showing his despair and sadness towards the reality as well as his perplexity. His book, A Passage to India, leaves the readers people＇s separation, cultural conflict, racial contradiction and a chaotic world. This demonstrates the failure in his intention to realize the communication and contact between people through ＂kindness, education and wisdom＂. This also makes people recognize the difficulties in the realization of human races＇ unification and cultural blending by means of building up friendship.
