摘要
《红王妃》是德拉布尔的第16部小说。小说结尾处利用霍利威尔博士之口,道出作家终极关注——精神疯癫与社会权力之间的关系。精神疯癫既是社会权力形塑的产物,又是社会权力压迫的见证。德拉布尔崇尚严肃的道德观和价值观,关注人类的生存状况和社会发展以及个人的社会价值和自我实现,批判人类社会形态中的任何不平等现象。德拉布尔借两个跨越时空的女人的对话讲述了疯癫的故事,表达了她对于理性、权力和道德关系的思考,以及冲破权力牢笼、消解权力运作机制的愿望,其终极目的在于探寻个体自我解放之途。
The Red Queenis the 16 th novel by Margaret Drabble. At the end of the story,Dr. Halliwell speaks out the writer’s ultimate concern: the relationship between moral insanity and social power.Moral insanity is the product remoulded by social power,and witnesses the oppression of social power as well. Drabble advocates ethics and values,she concerns man’s living conditions and social nature,social value,and self-fulfillment of the individual,and she criticizes all the inequalities in human society. In accordance,Drabble relates the stories of moral insanity by the dialogue of the two women across time and space;she reflects on the relationship between reason,power,and ethics;she longs to shake off the bonds of social power and clear up power operation;and finally she aims to find a way to separate ethics from politics and hence to achieve self-fulfillment of the individual.
