The book titled Zhi Zheng zhi Dao (Way of Running Government) consisting of 43 bamboo slips of the ninth issue of the Tsinghua Bamboo Slips is preserved in poor condition;most of the slips were broken at the bamboo joints. At the tails of these slips, the number one to forty-two are marked (one of them is not numbered). The complete text of this book could be divided into three parts: part one is the general introduction of the book;part two consists of four sets of comparisons of cases of running governments in the past and present, discussing the ways of running government in various angles;part three is the summarizations of positive and negative experiences in the history. The author of this book should be a native of the Chu State, and this book would be completed in the reigns of Kings Su or Xuan (381-340 BC). Its thought is mainly that of the Confucianism, mixed with theories of other schools. The book Zhi Zheng zhi Dao is different from the Zhi Bang zhi Dao (Way of Ruling a State) of the eighth issue of the Tsinghua Bamboo Slips in the form, but their contents are coherent A long political essay consisting of as many as 70 bamboo slips is really rare.
