摘要
金岳霖把翻译分为两种:一是译意,一是译味。从系统功能语言学角度,本文认为"译意"是指翻译出原文的经验意义,而"译味"则是再现原文的"人际意义"。从形式对功能体现的角度,尤其是从体现人际意义的词汇-语法系统在英汉语中的差别出发,文章讨论了《红楼梦》一些段落及其翻译案例所承载的人际意义,论述了根据系统功能语言学关于语气、情态、评价、人际意义、语旨等概念以及形式、功能、语境三者关系的阐述,译者和译学研究者就能找出一条破解"译味"难题的路径,通达语篇承载的人际意义之彼岸。
From systemic functional linguistics' perspective, this paper holds that Jin Yuelin's binary division of "translating the meaning" and "translating the underlying meaning" can be interpreted respectively as translating the experiential meaning and translating the interpersonal and textual meaning. By analyzing excerpts from A Dream of Red Mansions and the two English versions, this paper attempts to display the realization of "translating the underlying meaning" through a discussion on mood, modality, appraisal, interpersonal meaning, and tenor, as well as the interaction among form, function and context.
