From the perspective of traditional translation theories, the translator, "servant" of the original author and text, is put in the peripheral position. whereas, "treason" has become an eseential feature of translation. The concept of "creative treason" not only helps establish the subjective status of a translator in the translation process, but also properly describes the role that a translator plays in the translation practice. Taking Howard Goldblatt translation "Wolf totem" as an example, this paper explores the practice of "creative treason" in translation activities from the aspect of textual structure, language and culture.
