Chinese translation of the Bible is another important event in his history of the cultural exchange between China and the foreign world after the Chinese translation of the Buddhist classics. However, proper translation of God ( Elohim, Theos and Deus) has always been controversial, and translators of different periods put forward different terms and argu-ments which ultimately were beyond the language, extending to the Chinese religious culture and Christian theology. The largest debate happened at late Qing dynasty and lasted for more than half a century, revealing the dilemma of concept transplantation at the across-cultural communication.
