Hor Sinic:Translations from the Popular Literature of Chinese by Robert Morrison is his first Eng-lish work after he came to China .Although the length of the book is not long , it contains a lot of things about China and reflects Morrison ’ s understanding and evaluation of Chinese culture .This paper analyzes his translation cases , and reveals the writer ’ s cultural identity behind it .The comments made by English readers showed that they were influenced by the translator and also by the ideology and patron .Both the translation ( translator) and the interpret-er ( reader) construct the images of China in British vision at that time .
