摘要
《毒蛇圈》刊登于《新小说》一卷8至24号(1902-1906),"法国鲍福原注","上海知新室主人"(周桂笙)译,"趼廛主人"(吴趼人)评点。本文试图通过对于这篇侦探小说的翻译和评点的讨论,分析晚清现代性的引进及其文化协商的问题。在吴趼人和周桂笙对于《毒蛇圈》的翻译和评点中,我们可以看到,一方面侦探小说以翻译西方法律制度等"现代性"面向批判中国传统,另一方面又以中国传统出发,选择、改写西方现代性。在这里,翻译成了文化冲突与协商的场所,也成了我们考察中国现代思想生产的线索。
This paper studies the introduction of western modernity and cultural negotiation in late Qing Dynasty from the analysis to translation of Wu Jianren and annotation of Zhou Guisheng to the novel The Trick of Poisonous Snake. On one hand, this novel introduced western modernity, such as western legal system, criticized Chinese cultural tradition; and on the other hand, it chose and changed western modernity. Here, translation became a field of conflict and negotiation, and a clue from which we could observe the process of birth of Chinese modem thought.
