This paper adopts a gender perspective to discuss different perceptions of division of emotional labor in effect and its commercialization and the theoretic potential of emotional labor by conventional sociology and women's studies. It argues that in conventional sociology and economics of intimacy, feminization of emotional labor is considered legitimate and fixated, and its commercialization, however, has been resisted. Feminists have been more concerned with gender-based division of commercialized emotional labor that is concealing and reproducing gender inequalities.
