Gao You, an exegesis master in Han Dynasty, worked in a realistic approach when illustrated ancient books. To the points he failed to understand, he left them aside without any explanation. To those he felt puzzled, he gave some explanation for further understanding. In Gao You's annotation, what meant "unsolved" were such words as "unheard" ("未闻") or "unable to understand" ("未达"), etc. What indicated doubts were words like "possible saying" ("或曰") or "one of the sayings" ("一说"), etc. The lack of literary references and ancient people's disagreement on some facts led to the birth of unsolved doubts.
