Abstract This paper attempts an analysis of the concept of structure, which is often used without a clear definition. The author argues that the structure of a literary text is not an immanent property of the text before it is interpreted. Rather, textual structure and textual meaning are understood as the result of the interpretative process, as a dialectics between the interpreter and the text.
