Objective To understand the status of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)prescriptions in the hospital, and to promote rational use of TCM.Methods By using Excel software,5 020 TCM prescriptions for oral administration in our university hospital from June 2017 to February 2018 were filtered and analyzed. Results Patients were mostly university students and elderly, with the average age of(50.22±23.82)years,the average dosage per prescription was(5.46±2.34),average number of drugs per prescription was(12.42±6.80),average weight per prescription was(169.06±82.75)g.Of the 20 most common used drugs,13 of them were overdosed averagely, while 6 of them overdosed 30%higher than the Chinese Pharmacopoeia.Of the 19 toxic Chinese medicine,14 of them were overdosed averagely, while 13 of them overdosed 30%higher than the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Conclusion The age distribution of the patients is in line with the characteristics of the university community. The number of prescriptions, the number of drugs and the dosage are basically reasonable, but the big prescription phenomenon and the overdose of drugs exist. The overdose of toxic Chinese medicine is more serious than that of the common TCM,and more attention is needed. It is high time that the knowledge exchange of TCM within TCM doctors and TCM pharmacists should be emphasized to improve the safety of TCM.
