The citizens of modern society all live within nation-states,obtaining legally equal national identities and statuses, thus forming an identification with the nation-state.However,in practice, there remains a persistent dilemma in the identification of national identity for women, manifested as identity deficits or imbalances in the construction of nation-al identity, especially in some developing countries, women have not yet obtained real recognized citizenship in the nation-state.With the help of the Chinese-language film The Flowers of War,this paper attempts to sort out the film's deviation from the narrative of female identity, reveal the dilemma of female identity under the dominant perspective of male elites in the special period and nowadays, and reflect on the issue of how to better construct and reshape women’s identity in the construction of nation-state in China.
