Objective To analyze the absenteeism of medical staff in tertiary hospital and its relationship with psychological capital. Methods A total of 462 medical staff from a tertiary hospital in Jinan City were selected as the research subjects by convenience sampling method. The Stanford Presenteeism Scale and Psychological Capital Scale were used to investigate the absenteeism and psychological capital. Results The median and the 0th-100th percentile of score was 16(6-29)in absenteeism and was 95(20-120)in psychological capital in the research subjects. The total score of psychological capital was negatively correlated with the total score of absenteeism(partial correlation coefficient was-0.34,P<0.01).The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that the higher the level of psychological capital, the lower the risk of absenteeism(P<0.01),after adjusting for confounding factors such as gender, age, education level, professional title, department and length of service. Conclusion The absenteeism of medical staff in tertiary hospital was negatively correlated with psychological capital level.Measures should be taken to improve the psychological capital of medical staff to control the occurrence of hidden absenteeism.
