摘要
英译本《论语》(The Analects of Confucius)自1938年在西方出版以来,各种译本越来越引起目标语读者对中国传统文化和儒家思想的兴趣。其中以英国传教士理雅各和韦利的两个英译本最具代表性和影响力。在认知语言学识解理论的指导下,尝试从辖域、视角两个维度加以新的考辨,发现理雅各、韦利的《论语》英译本存在着不少偏离现象。借助“识解”理论的分析框架,在破解两个《论语》英译本偏离成因的基础上,提出一些建设性的翻译对策。
As one of the great classics of Chinese culture,the versions of The Analects of Confucius,translated by James Legge and Arthur Waley,have contributed greatly to introducing and promoting Chinese culture and values in the West.Within the framework of the Construal Theory,this paper chooses two dimensions—scope and perspective to make a new analysis of the phenomenon and reasons of the deviations in the two versions.It is supposed that there are two main reasons for the translation deviations:the differences between Chinese and Western cultures and China’s isolation,and the construal ability of the two translators.On the basis of an analysis of the causes of the deviations in the translation of The Analects of the Confucius,effective translation strategies are suggested,aiming at not only presenting implications for translating traditional Chinese cultural classics into other languages,but also promoting Chinese cultural values to Western readers.
