摘要
玛丽·莱姆斯特·蒂科姆是20世纪美国图书馆史上的杰出人物,致力于推动美国基层图书馆建设,为美国基层图书馆事业做出了卓越的贡献。一方面,玛丽在就任华盛顿县免费图书馆馆长期间建立了图书存放站,创造性地提出了“流动图书马车”构想并付诸实践,帮助构建了系统完整的基层图书馆体系,实现了由中央图书馆至乡村图书馆的点线联系,为后世基层流动图书馆建设提供了丰富的经验。另一方面,玛丽对图书馆运营的相关问题进行了充分的调查研究,积极参与图书馆协会工作年会并发表演讲,提出了图书馆馆员培训计划和图书运输计划等构想,一直影响至今。
Mary Lemist Titcomb is an outstanding figure in American library history in the 20th century.She is dedicated to promoting the construction of county libraries in the United States and has made remarkable contributions to American libraries.On the one hand,during the period of being the head librarian of Washington county free library,Mary set up book deposit stations,creatively put forward a conception“Book Wagon”and put them into practice,she has built a systematic and complete basic library system,achieved the dot-line connection from the central library to the rural library and provided a wealth of experience for the construction of mobile libraries in the future.On the other hand,Mary has fully studied the issues related to the operation of the library,actively participated in the working meetings of the Library Association and delivered speeches,and put forward the training plan for librarians,the book transportation plan and other theories.These ideas have always had a great influence up to now.
