The Gravedigger's Daughter, written by contemporary American novelist Joyce Carol Oates, reflects the experiences of Jewish diaspora families in United States during World War II,and shows the dynamic construction process of ethical identity of characters in the process of spatial displacement. It is a typical literary model to study spatial and ethical issues. The identification of space and the positioning of identity represent each other. In the process of spatial migration and spatial experience, the diaspora's construction of ethical identity encounters various ethical dilemmas, and their diverse spatial practices reflect the ethical choices of different characters.By portraying the wandering situation and identity anxiety of Jewish diaspora families after the dissolution of their cultural identities,Oates explores many issues of diaspora, space, identity and ethics faced by American Jewish ethnic groups in the context of World War II,reflecting the writer's concern for American Jewish groups and showing the ethical value of spatial narratives.
