摘要
本文以新企业选址为研究对象探讨制造业空间集聚机制。主要工作是从地理距离与投入产出关系出发构建行业间距离指标,并基于工商企业注册数据、规模以上工业企业数据与投入产出表等相关信息,实证分析行业间距离对新企业选址的影响。本文发现,新企业选址倾向于靠近上下游头部企业所在城市,与上游行业(下游行业)头部企业的距离每增加1%,新企业数量将减少0.302%(0.331%);头部企业所属的产业链生态圈增强了距离负向效应。拓展性分析表明,16个制造业二位数行业(占比53.3%)表现出同时靠近上下游头部企业所在地的倾向。本文实证结果对推动国内贸易大循环与城市间产业协同发展等方面具有重要启示意义。
The spatial distribution of industries displays several characteristics.First,in the presence of transportation costs,industries with close input-output linkages tend to cluster together.Second,industrial agglomeration is continuous in space,and is not blocked by administrative division of regions.Third,as the distance to the industry-leading enterprises or the clusters of small-and medium-firms increase,the agglomeration benefits will gradually decline.In the period of the Fourteenth Five-Year Plan and for the future,it is one of China’s economic strategies to accelerate the establishment of a new double-thrust development dynamic,with the domestic economy as the mainstay and international engagement as the support,each reinforcing the other.In this context,is the imbalanced spatial distribution of manufacturing industry and its sustainability still valid,and what is its internal mechanism?We are motivated to explore the mechanisms of industrial agglomeration.Specifically,we use new firms as a proxy for agglomeration and focus on input-output relationships which are integrated with transport costs in domestic economy.We contribute to the relevant literature on correcting the shortcomings such as disconnection between industrial characteristics and transport costs or indirect measurement.Based on these,we attempt to answer two questions:How does the distance to the leading enterprises of upstream and downstream sectors,namely,industrial distance,affect the location choice of new firms?How do the industrial clusters surrounding around the leading enterprises moderate the effects of the industrial distance on new firms’location choice?We use the enterprise registration database between 1998 and 2003 to construct the dependent variable at the city-industry level,namely,the number of new firms.Then,we construct a comprehensive index—industrial distance,which includes the input-output relationship between industries and transport costs.We use information from the Chinese Industrial Enterprises Database to identi
