摘要
中国企业对外直接投资的区位选择问题仍未得到共识性解释,权变视角使相关研究呈现出“盲人摸象”的状况。本文基于177家企业2013—2018年对外直接投资的相关数据,运用模糊集定性比较分析方法,探索制度环境、企业异质性与东道国经济禀赋等多种因素对中国企业对外直接投资的联动效应。研究表明:制度环境、企业异质性和东道国经济禀赋条件“多重并发”形成中国企业对外直接投资的多样化组态形式,具有明显的“殊途同归”特点,表现为“制度环境拉动”“资源拉动+效率驱动”以及“市场拉动+经验驱动”的投资模式;东道国自然资源、市场规模和东道国制度环境是中国企业对外直接投资的重要外部牵引力,而企业生产效率是中国企业对外直接投资的重要内部驱动力;中国企业对外直接投资区位选择的影响因素之间具有明显的互补关系,企业异质性与东道国经济禀赋均能有效弱化东道国制度环境对企业对外直接投资的消极影响。本文从组态视角系统性地解释了中国企业对外直接投资路径的差异化,弥补了权变视角对该问题解释的局限性,在一定程度上推动了国际商务研究从单一权变向整体多维视角转变。
The Location Choice problem of Chinese firms’foreign direct investment has not yet received a consensus explanation.The perspective of traditional contingency makes relevant research appear“the blind men and the elephant”.Based on the relevant data of 177 companies’direct investment from 2013 to 2018,this paper uses fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis to explore the linkage effect of various factors such as institutional environment,corporate heterogeneity,and host country’s economic endowment on Chinese enterprises’foreign direct investment.The research shows that the“multiple concurrency”of institutional environment,enterprise heterogeneity and host country’s economic endowment conditions form a diversified configuration of Chinese enterprises’foreign direct investment,which has obvious characteristics of“all roads lead to Rome”.It is manifested in the investment model of“institutional environment-pulling”,“resource-pulling plus efficiency-driven”,and“market-pulling plus experience-driven”.The natural resources,market size and institutional environment of the host country are the important external pulling of Chinese enterprises’OFDI.Enterprise production efficiency is an important internal driving force of Chinese enterprises’OFDI.There is an obvious substitution relationship between the influencing factors of direct investment location choice.Both the heterogeneity of enterprises and the economic endowment of the host country can effectively reduce the negative effect caused by the host countries’institutional environment in the process of foreign direct investment.Based on the perspective of configuration,this paper systematically explains the differentiation of Chinese enterprises’foreign direct investment paths,making up for the limitation of the interpretation of the problem from the perspective of contingency,and to a certain extent promoting the change of the perspective from a single contingency to multi-dimensional perspectives on international busine
