中美二语研究生学术写作能力和课程需求评估比较研究 被引量:3

A Comparative Study of Academic English Writing Competence and Needs Assessment of Chinese and American ESL Postgraduates

摘要 基于中美两所高校二语研究生的问卷调查和教师访谈,对二语研究生的学术英语写作能力和需求评估进行了调查和分析。研究发现,二语研究生的学术英语写作存在共性问题,主要表现在学术词汇、语法、文献阅读、体裁和写作修辞能力偏弱,学术写作规范知识不足。两个群体之间也存在显著差异:与美国二语研究生相比,中国二语研究生的写作修辞能力更加薄弱,获得教师面对面的个性化指导机会不多。研究最后对高校二语研究生学术英语写作教学提出了建议。 This study investigates the academic English writing competence and needs assessment of ESL postgraduates through student survey and faculty interview at two Chinese and American universities.The results show that Chinese and American ESL postgraduates have similar concerns and priorities:limited proficiency in academic vocabulary,grammar,literature reading,genre and writing rhetoric and insufficient knowledge of academic writing conventions.There also exist some salient differences between the two groups of students.Chinese postgraduates are much poorer at rhetorical knowledge and have much less support from their teacher’s face-to-face guidance.The study concludes with some suggestions for ESL postgraduate academic English writing teaching in higher education institutions.
