Objective To explore the relationship between body mass index (BMI)and blood glucose control in obese school-age children with type 1 diabetes. Methods A total of 160 children with type 1 diabetes who were admitted from January 2015 to June 2017 were selected as the study subjects. The general conditions of the children and parents were investigated and the BMI of the children was calculated. The factors related to the blood glucose control level of the children were analyzed by single factor analysis. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the factors influencing children’s blood glucose control level. Results Regarding the blood glucose control of 160 school-age children with type 1 diabetes, there were 113 children reached the standard of blood glucose control, with the compliance rate of 70.63%. Univariate analysis showed that age, maternal education, lifestyle change, initial BMI and BMI reduction were related factors for blood glucose control of obese school-age children with type 1 diabetes. The initial BMI was the independent influencing factor for the glycemic control of obese school-age children with type 1 diabetes. The lifestyle change and BMI reduction were protective factors for the blood sugar control of obese school-age children with type 1 diabetes. Conclusion There are many related factors in the blood glucose control of school-age children with type 1 diabetes. Changing lifestyle, controlling body quality and reducing BMI are beneficial to the control of blood glucose in obese school-age children with type 1 diabetes.
