同胞数量与青少年认知能力:资源稀释还是生育选择? 被引量:13

摘要 已有研究表明,个体的同胞数量与其教育成就之间呈负相关,家庭教育资源稀释是其主要机制。在中国的计划生育政策下,由于较低的机会成本,低“质量”的父母可能选择生育较多的子女,“生育选择”为解释同胞数量与教育成就的关系提供了新视角。本文利用中国教育追踪调查数据研究表明,对于七年级和九年级的青少年而言,同胞数量越多,认知能力越差。进一步机制检验表明,同胞数量越多,子女所获得的家庭各类教育资源投入越少;“质量”越低的父母生育数量越多。本文的政策启示是,推进我国公共教育服务均等化,降低家庭教育资源约束是提高青少年认知能力的重要途径。同时,当前提高生育率的政策制定过程中需要充分考虑“生育选择”问题。 Due to the family education resource dilution, studies have shown that sibling size has a negative impact on educational achievement. Under the constraint of China s family planning policy, sibling size may be related to the quality of the parents. The “parental selection” provides a new perspective to explain the relationship between sibling size and educational achievements. Using data from the China Education Panel Survey, this paper shows that sibling size has negative impact on the youth s cognitive ability. More empirical evidences show that the bigger sibling size means less educational resources received from parents and lower parent quality. The policy implication of this paper is that accelerating the equalization of public education services in China and reducing the constraints on family educational resources are important ways to improve youth s cognitive ability. At the same time, it is essential to fully consider the “parental selection” in policies for promoting fertility.
