摘要
语言景观是城市环境的重要组成部分,近年来受到符号学、社会学和经济学等学科的关注。本文基于互动顺序考察南京老门东历史文化街区语言景观现状,探析景观中标牌的"作者"、"读者"、标牌三者间的互动关系,揭示语言景观存在的问题及原因。研究发现,老门东官方标牌与私人标牌的语码选择方式不同,英语在私人标牌中主要发挥符号的象征功能;私人标牌中"作者"、"读者"、标牌三者互动显著,标牌充分展现了商家的经营特点和顾客的群体需求,而官方标牌中三者互动不足;标牌文本译写质量欠佳,公共空间标牌译写政策与实践衔接不足。该研究对进一步提升城市语言管理水平、加强城市外语环境建设、科学制定公共空间语言政策具有积极意义。
Linguistic landscape is an important part of the urban environment.In recent years,it has attracted attention from disciplines such as semiotics,sociology and economics.Based on the theory of Interaction Order of Geosemiotics,this study investigated current situation of linguistic landscape in Nanjing Laomendong Historic and Cultural District,explored the interaction between landscape "authors","readers" and signs,and revealed problems in linguistic landscape and the reasons.It was found that linguistic code selection of official signs is different from that of private signs,and English mainly plays a symbolic function in private signs;there is significant interaction between the "authors","readers" and signs in private landscape signs,and the signs fully demonstrate commercial characteristics and customer demands,while the interaction between the "authors","readers" and signs in official landscape is insufficient;the translation quality of bi/multilingual signs is not satisfactory,and the translation practice does not fully conform to China’s language policies for the translation of bi/multilingual signs in public space.The study has implications for further improving the level of urban language management,strengthening the construction of foreign language environment,and scientifically making language policies for public space.
