The volunteer service of young college students has become an important pioneer in serving the construction of socialist spiritual civilization, helping young people grow up,improving social mobilization mechanism and promoting career development. The questionnaire survey of 665 college students from 18 universities in Shanghai shows that the participation degree of volunteer service of college students in Shanghai is relatively high, but the average length of participation per semester is relatively low,and the problem of insufficient sustained participation or halfway loss is widespread. The research finds that cognitive level, motivation and other internal factors have a significant impact on the extensive participation, while the external factors such as university and government support, organizational management satisfaction, job distribution satisfaction have a significant impact on the in-depth participation. It can be seen that the internal factors are the main factors affecting whether college students will become volunteers, while the external factors are the main factors affecting college students’continuous participation in volunteer service. To improve college students’continuous voluntary service relies onpromotingexternal management and security,in order to avoid the loss of volunteers in the middle of the way and establish a long-term mechanism for volunteer service.
