摘要
英语世界对中国当代小说的翻译场域形成于20世纪80年代,当时西方世界迫切想要了解新时期中国的政治和社会现状,小说成为提供信息的重要媒介,大量短篇小说以选集形式在英语世界翻译出版。随着中西文化交流的不断增强以及网络文化的蓬勃兴起,来自不同社会文化背景的翻译行为者纷纷参与到中国文学英译队伍中,翻译和出版的策略也不断革新。历经三十多年的发展,当下中国当代小说翻译场域发生了重要转变。本文从描述性社会翻译学研究范式出发,以布迪厄场域理论为分析工具,试图勾勒中国当代小说英译场域的历史演变进程,探讨这种演变背后的内外部原因,旨在打破目前学界对中国当代小说英译的静态认知,进而强调翻译研究中历史观的重要性。
The genesis of the field of translating contemporary Chinese fiction into English can be traced back to the 1980s when the West showed a renewed interest in China’s political and social conditions in the New Era.Contemporary Chinese fiction was translated mainly for its political and social value.Many short stories were translated and published in the form of anthologies.With increased cultural exchanges between China and the West as well as the burgeoning of cyber culture,translation agents of different social and cultural backgrounds participate in this translation initiative,introducing new translation and publication strategies into the field.After three decades’development,this translation field has undergone significant changes.In contrast to the current static conceptualization of contemporary Chinese fiction in English translation,this paper adopts Pierre Bourdieu’s field theory to examine the evolution of this translation field and explore the underlying internal and external reasons so as to underscore a historical perspective in translation studies.
