With the opening of the Silk Road, foreign spices such as pepper, cloves, rosemary, and benzoin were imported from the Western Regions one after another. During the Han Dynasty, spices were mainly enjoyed by the upper classes such as the aristocracy, and they were applied to the life of aristocrats, and they hatched the embryonic form of the Chinese spice culture. In the Tang Dynasty, the development of the Silk Road reached a peak, a large number of exotic spices were imported, and the spice culture formed in the Han Dynasty was fully developed. The use of spices is no longer confined to the nobility of the royal family. Common officials, literati, and Buddhist and Taoist subjects have become subjects of spice use. Spices are popular in the lower and middle classes. At the same time, spices have also been applied to various aspects of society such as diet, religion, and sacrifices, enriching the material and cultural life of the time, and the development of Chinese spice culture is complete. The creation and development of the spice culture has strengthened the demand for exotic spices and promoted the expansion of the spice trade. The materials and spirits of different countries, regions, and nationalities on the Silk Road have been interacted with each other, promoting exchanges between different civilizations.
