Peter Matthiessen is the only American writer who has won the National Book Award both in Fiction and Nonfiction.Among his over 30 books, the novel Far Tortuga is not his most successful work from the commercial point of view, but from the ecological perspective, it is his most original and innovative work. Its unique typography and narrative mode, as well as the theme, reveal the influence of Chan view of harmony and oneness between man and nature on Matthiessen's writing.
