Unlike those who interpret Arundhati Roy's novel The God of Small Things from the perspectives of caste, gender, religion, trauma and power relation, this essay analyzes the novel as one work of contemporary global fiction in English based on Paul Jay's discussion of the historical relationship between postcolonialism and globalization and the disciplinary relationship between postcolonial studies and globalization studies. This paper argues that in the novel Roy illustrates both the idea that the postcolonial condition itself is written as part of the history of globalization and the intricate relationship between globalization and the postcolonial condition so as to enable us to realize that Roy, as one of the anti-globalization intellectuals, not only critiques the negative effects of globalization, but also reveals the connection between the critique and the examination of the postcolonial condition.
