摘要
《天路历程》乃约翰·班扬代表作。宾为霖对《天路历程》中"God"圣名的翻译,一方面与当时在华传教士对《圣经》中"God"的汉译异曲同工,另一方面又据特定语境灵活处理。它既呼应了当时的《圣经》汉译,又适应了中国的信仰国情,更便于对中国民众牧教;既沿袭了西方文化传统,又继承了利玛窦"合儒补儒"的文化适应策略,堪称中西文化融合翻译之典范。
The Pilgrim's Progress is John Bunyan's masterpiece. Williams Charmers Burns's translating strategy of "God" fits in with both the trend of translating the Bible and the belief condition in China to promote the spreading of Christianity. Burn's translation of "God" succeeded in inheriting the western cultural tradition and Matteo Ricci- s strategy of cultural adaptation to Chinese Confucianism, which was a typical combination of western culture and China-s culture in translation.
