摘要
虽然远程教育被认为是给非传统学习者提供的教育机会,但是远程教育方法正日益融入常规校园式教与学实践中。本文拟探讨这种现象。引起我们关注的一个主要情况是,作为一种教育提供模式,远程教育已经从不受人尊重的"边缘人生"进入主流教育的中心,并在此过程中获得了与历史更加悠久的常规校园式教育同等的尊重——这是它长期以来孜孜以求的目标。出现这种转变的原因是多方面的,包括教与学领域一直在变化,最为重要的是各种拨款模式的出现,以及由于信息通信技术日益普及,大批技术被用于支持各种教育模式的教与学实践和提升教与学质量。这些发展正在改变教与学实践的面貌,因为学习者、教师和教育机构能够自由混搭各种教与学模式和方法,不管它们的基本原则是什么。本文讨论这种现象所涉及的问题、它给当代教育提出哪些挑战以及蕴藏哪些机会。
Despite being conceived of as an educational opportunity for the non-traditional learner,distance education methods are increasingly infiltrating conventional campus-based learning and teaching practice.This article explores this phenomenon.A key observation of this exploration is that distance education,as a mode of educational provision,has moved from a life on the fringes with low esteem to a life at the centre of mainstream educational provision,and in doing so achieving that parity of esteem which it has long sought with the more established conventional campus-based forms.The reasons for this shift are several,and they include a changing teaching and learning landscape,most importantly its funding models,and the array of information and communications technologies that are becoming widely available to support and enhance learning and teaching practices regardless of its sources.These developments are changing the face of learning and teaching practice as learners,teachers and educational organizations freely blend modes and methods of teaching and learning regardless of their threshold principles.This article explores the issues surrounding this phenomenon,the challenges it poses for contemporary educational provision and the opportunities that lie therein.
