The principle and the required material demands of the fused deposition modeling （FDM） are introduced. The research progress of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene plastic （ABS）, polylactic acid （PLA）, polycarbonate （PC） for FDM at home and abroad is described in detail, and their prospects are forecasted.
