Shijing not only ranks first in five Chinese Classics but also has become a classic in Britain favored by British readers. Its canonization in Britain was initiated by the publication of James Legge's English version of Shijing in 1871. The canonization is attributed to professionals and patronage controlling within and outside the literary system respectively. They both provide favorable internal and external conditions for Shijing's translation and transmission in Britain and work together to canonize this classic. Translators,as professionals, lay a good foundation for its classicization by offering successive excellent versions. Their work is the prerequisite of Shijing's transmission and acceptance in Britain. Reviewers and critics who manipulate the discourse in this system accelerate the canonization by making positive comments and guiding the public opinion favorable to its canonization. Publishers as the most important representatives of patronage contribute to a necessary channel to Shijing's canonization in Britain by continuously publishing different English versions in the long course. Patronage serves as an accelerator of Shijing's canonization with the aid of teachers who embrace Shijing in curricular set-up and give lectures on Shijing in higher educational establishment, which greatly promotes students' reading and understanding of this classic.
