阅读《竺可桢日记》,我们可以看到,在竺可桢身上所体现出来的一位大学校长的家国情怀,他的追求真理、培育英才、转移风气、报效国家的办学理念,他的克己奉公、清正廉洁、襟怀广阔、平易近人的道德情操,不仅是中国教育史上的一份弥足珍贵的遗产,更是21世纪建设高等教育强国的征途中,我们亟待认真发掘、充分利用的宝贵的本土资源。这些基于一所大学的发展所体现出来的理念和情操,折射的是现代大学在中国这块土地上成长、发展所应遵循的基本规律和她的主持者必须具备的基本素质,对于正在致力于建设世界一流大学的中国高等教育而言,可以给我们提供诸多方面的启示和借鉴。
Reading ＂Chu Kochen Diaries＂,we can find a university president＇s compassion for his home-country and his ideals of running a university in terms of truth-seeking,talent-cultivating,ethos-transforming and country-serving.We can also find his moral sentiment in terms of his working selflessly for the public interest,his honesty and uprightness,his broad-mindedness and his easy-going character.All of these are not only an invaluable heritage in the history of education in China,but also a priceless national resource for serious examination and full application in our way of building China into a nation with better higher education in the 21 st century.The ideas and sentiments distilled from the development of a university reflect the basic rules for the growth and advance of modern universities in China as well as the basic qualities needed by the presidents of universities.All of thses provide us a lot of references and inspirations for Chinese higher education to march into world first class.
