Christian schools in Modern Japan were under the government control. During the Meiji period,Christian schools were gradually integrated into the national education system, and constantly nationalized, because of the exclusion movement and some educational policies. Before World War II,Christian schools were more and more militaristic. After the outbreak of the war, Christian schools in Japan were gradually in corporated into the wartime system. Their 'Christian 'character was lost. The reasons were closely related with the nation-state construction in modern Japan.
