B.A.奥戈特是当代非洲享有盛誉的史学家,被称为"当代非洲三大思想贤人之一"。他主张应该把非洲作为一个整体来看待,他的史学研究致力于非洲历史价值的再发现与"去殖民地化"。他认为史学研究的宗旨在于"解决非洲现实问题,服务非洲发展",当代非洲文化复兴与国家建构都离不开非洲历史的重建。作为当代非洲史学的重要组织者与领导者,他重视基于非洲本土文化的研究手段与方法的探寻与运用,强调口头传说的史学意义,主张复兴非洲传统记史方法。奥戈特的非洲历史研究及其理念获得了同时代人的认可,也为他所培养的新一代非洲职业历史学家所继承。
B.A.Ogot is a well-respected historian in Africa,known as the 'top three intellectual sages in contemporary Africa'.Ogot believes that one should look at Africa as a whole.In his study,he focuses on rediscovering the historical significance of Africa and the 'decolonization' process of the continent.He argues that the purpose of historical study is to solve concrete problems and serve the development of Africa,for Africa's revival depends on the rewriting of African history.Ogot is a leader of the African historical community,and his idea and practice of history have exerted a great influence among historians in Africa and beyond.
