The debate over the relationship between language, thought and culture once reached a crest spurred by the Hypothesis of Linguistic Relativity. With the rise of Chomsky's Universal Grammar, however, Hypothesis of Linguistic Relativity fell into decline. Since 1990s,a number of cross-linguistic studies based on linguistic typology have shed new light on this controversial issue and eventually led to the emergence of Neo-Whorfism. By focusing on an in-depth exploration of the issue of general cognition versus on-line thinking, and Universal Grammar versus Bio-cuhural Hybrid, this paper intends to make a new interpretation on the relationship between language, thought and culture. It is revealed succinctly that any language of certain linguistic type entails a distinctive mode of thought and pattern of culture. This enlightenment contributes considerably to deepening the self-knowledge of human being, enriching theories of linguistics, and promoting the research of second language acquisition.
