摘要
本文以问卷调查与数据分析为主要方法,研究了短期来华留学的美国学生在课外语言接触时间与途径方面的分布规律,分析了他们的汉语学习动机、文化认同观念、语言交际观念及其与课外语言接触的关系。研究结果发现:兴趣动机、中国人认同、语言交际效果是影响美国学生课外语言接触的直接因素,它们反映了学习者对目的语和文化的社会心理距离。文章提出来华项目的设计应注重培养学生的文化分析意识及其跨文化适应能力。
Based on the survey data of American students who studied in China in short-term language programs,this article reports the time distribution of learners ’ extracurricular language exposure and types of their interactions in China outside class.In addition,this article examines the interrelations among learners’extracurricular language exposure,their motivations,cultural identities,as well as their perceptions of communications in Chinese.This research demonstrates that inner motivation,the ability to adapt to the Chinese,and communicative effectiveness are key factors that determine learners’willingness to use the target language outside class.The factors mentioned above are direct reflections of learners’socio-psychological distances with the target language and culture.Finally,this article suggests that strategies for promoting learners’cultural adaptability and cross-cultural communications skills should be integrated into the curriculum design for study programs in China for American students.
