摘要
本文旨在研究限制型话题与开放型话题对英语专业中、高级水平学习者议论文主题句概括力的影响。首先基于语言学与修辞学理论与研究结果,制定了主题句概括力的衡量方法。对200篇不同话题类型的作文进行了数据统计与分析。研究结果显示,与开放型话题相比,限制型话题更有利于学习者写出概括力较强的主题句;而且话题类型对不同语言水平的学习者在概括力的不同层次上产生影响。研究结果说明,对于中、高级水平的学习者来说语段结构知识比较容易习得,在写作教学中更应重视概念逻辑层面的学习。
This paper reports a study on two hundred expository compositions written by the first and second-year English majors in an attempt to investigate the influence of topic type on the abstraction of the expository topic sentences. Based on the related linguistic theories and the rhetorical studies, the rubric to measure the topic sentence was established. One hundred English majors were asked to write with time limit two expositions on a restricted topic and an open topic. The resuhs show that compared with the open topic, the restricted topic facilitated the learners to complete the segmented discourse structures and to write more effective topic sentences which could summarize the following supporting sentences. Moreover, the results display that the topic effects occurred in different aspects of the abstraction to the learners at different proficiency levels. Hence in writing instruction conceptual and logical level should be emphasized.
