摘要
《科利奥兰纳斯》隐含着护民官的政制含义以及罗马共和的政制难题。护民官是阴谋家和蛊惑家的合体,操纵着民众力量的"多头怪兽",是罗马共和内部的危险成分;科利奥兰纳斯将个人的生命和荣耀融入城邦,但他身上却有着超越罗马共和的气质,无法与罗马相容,因为罗马不仅是贵族的,也是平民的。科利奥兰纳斯的僭越性精神恰是全剧的指向,或许也是解决罗马共和难题的惟一出路。
Coriolanus implies the institutional significance of the tribune and the political predicament of the Roman Republic. As the complex of conspirator and enchanter, the tribune manipulates the beast with many heads, composing the fatal element within the Roman Republic; Coriolanus integrates his life and glory with the city, but he owns a temper surpassing the Roman Republic, which finally makes him incompatible with Rome. Rome is not only of the noble, but also of the plebeian. The tyrannical spirit of Coriolanus is the eentral implication of this play, and probably also the sole solution to the political predicament of the Roman Republic.
