Shakespeare' s Coriolanus is generally considered an Aristotelian tragedy about the downfall of an extremely arrogunt man who turns from a state hero to a traitor. This essay argues that due attention should be paid to the role of the two tribunes whose professional skills in manipulating public attitude toward Coriolanus contributes much to the tragedy, which calls for further consideration for issues in Roman democracy and the role of the citizens in democratic system.
