摘要
语言是文化的载体,尤其是文学作品中文化意象的使用包含着更为广阔、更为深沉的内涵,这就要求译者不但要译出原作的语义信息,而且还要译出原作内在的文化信息。通过对比分析霍克斯及杨宪益、戴乃迭对"司马牛之叹"中"叹"字的不同翻译方法,说明译者只有正确理解原语词义及其文化意蕴,才能更加全面、准确地传达文本及其蕴含的文化信息。
Language is the vehicle of culture.Especially in the literary works,cultural image contains broader and richer cultural connotation,which requires the translator not only to translate the semantic meaning of the source language,but also to translate the cultural information it contains.Through comparative analysis of the English translations of ＂Si-ma Niu＇s complaint＂ by David Hawkes and Yang Xian-yi and GladysYang,the paper explains that the translator can convey the semantic meaning and the cultural information of the source text only by understanding the connotation of the cultural image correctly and translating it properly.
