The paper introduces the latest subject service model of the Cornell University Library. This case study examines the services of one large, academic research library, illustrates the changing roles of subject specialists. The featured practices include research and teaching engagements, extended collection development, and some other cooperation-based activities. Besides traditional responsibilities, subject specialists are increasingly engaged in broader areas, such as scholarly publishing and communications, research data curation, collection digitization, creation of digital tools for resource discovery and management, etc. , Drawing from Cornell's model, the paper summarizes the characteristics of the new roles of subject specialists and the developing tends in services they provide.
