The paper reports the biological treatment of leather waste. It was found in the processes of screening that Pennicillium raciborskii AS 3.1066 could degrade the leather waste efficiently and the gaining rate of dissolved protein was 53.5 % . A mutant strain Penicillium raciborskii AS 3.1066E with high yield of protease was obtained by the treatment of UV mutugenesis. The proteinese activity of the mutant strain was three times as high as that of the original strain.
